Letter from our Dean
Dear Maple Village Families,

As many of you know, next year Waldorf Education will be 100 years old.  We are ramping up to have an amazing birthday party!

This week, I was reminded of what an incredible support system we have.  Our administrators participate in AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools North America) webinars and networking forums.  Our teachers attend workshops, lectures and trainings at Waldorf Institutes, our neighboring schools invite us to events and we invite them to ours.  I actually participate in two video calls a month with Waldorf schools all over the United States and Canada: One with other Pedagogical Administrators from smaller schools like ours, and one with any size school.  We all see each other in little boxes on our screens and discuss topics of the month. I learn so much from others in my same position about best practices in their schools. Often, what I share with others about our school is very helpful to them.

Yesterday, I was so busy, I nearly did not call into the general session.  But low and behold, I ran to my laptop and signed on.  To my amazement, I had alone time with the AWSNA Executive Director (who facilitates the call) and then one other administrator with many years of experience joined us from Whistler, British Columbia.  What did this mean? Would they cancel the call? No. It turned into one whole hour of, “Well, Lisa, what questions do you have for us?”  I could not believe my luck.  I looked through my notes and asked question after question. At the end, I said, “I definitely did not expect this hour to be dedicated to Maple Village.” They said, “That is what you get for calling in!”

On that note: Alice, Dan, Pam and I will be headed to a regional Waldorf Administrator meeting at Highland Hall Waldorf School in Northridge on Thursday afternoon.  We will be leaving campus at 12:00.  Ms. Kelley will be in the office from 12:00 - 2:00, and Ms. Ciana will be in the office from 2:00 - 5:00 to take messages. Ms. Kathy and Mr. Basil will also stay on campus in the afternoon to help wherever needed.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you on Monday!

Warmly,
Lisa
From the Office

All the Evergreens did very well on their physics exam this last week!

Once a year, I have an oral examination whereby the students must work together in teams to formulate an answer, explain their ideas and understanding and then present this to the class.  It is set up in a game show format, which they love, but it also allows them to develop some very good communication and presentation skills.

They all did wonderfully well on this occasion with their recent block of physics.  They not only came up with perceptive, well thought-out answers but they also progressed their understanding even further by comparing and contrasting the results of their different experiments in optics, aerodynamics and hydraulics.  Since their experiments were discovery-based, they were encouraged to use their observations to draw upon their own insights for a more thorough comprehension of the phenomena.

Impressive work, Evergreens!  Everyone passed and also helped their team win high scores!
